Birth Photography

I’ll be there to capture the emotion of every moment, the anticipation, the hand holding, the room number on the door, the clock at the time of delivery, listening to that little heartbeat with the Doppler, the midwifery notes…all without getting in the way of it.

Dads are needed in so many ways, and may not be able to document those important details. Whether at home or in the hospital, I can help you preserve the moments of your labor, your baby’s first breath, first nursing and first diaper. Photography of the actual birth is done on request, but of course I will respect your privacy if you choose not to. If you're having a cesarean section, photography during the surgery is usually not permitted, but there is LOTS to photograph before and after!

These sessions are almost always done in black and white, and they are primarily photojournalistic. Since each birth is so different, there is no time limit. Please let me know your due date in advance so I can ensure availability. Due to these sessions being on-call, I can only accept one birth session per month.

Birth Photography is a flat rate of $250. This session price includes a consultation to discuss the coverage you're looking for, my time, talent, equipment and online proofing and editing in my digital darkroom. If I have to travel beyond 20 kms of the studio, each additional 10 kms will be $5.

Three Sweet Months...

Little Miss S. was sleeping by the end of her session. She made us giggle, gave us smiles and all the soft expressions we could've asked for. What a pleasure it was to have her here.

Kids Outdoors in Winter?!

Thanks so much to Brian and Andrea for letting us use the beautiful room at Van Geest Brother Greenhouses in Grimsby! Their relaxed and warm setting had the children nice and comfortable. There are way too many awesome photos from this session to choose for this blog entry, but here's a small sample of the good stuff we got.

Loving the New Studio!

Well the studio is now open for business! These little angels were so much fun to have in the large renovated space. Mr. C was riding his monster trucks up the seamless paper like a skateboard ramp and having a great time doing it.

He was clowning around like crazy.

It's awesome when kids feel this comfortable in front of the camera.
